Montreal’s Typical Staircases
An interesting feature of the architecture of Montreal, is the use of stairs outside residential building. You can see them in all kinds and shapes in the Plateau. The explanation? A typical Montrealerway to save space and heat inside the home, following a 19th century law that required to leave a space in front of residential buildings to ensure the workers a minimum of greenery in front of their home.

Surrounded by Victorian homes, it is crossed by a beautiful bike path and is home to towering trees, small plazas, public art and two large ponds connected by a waterfall.
